Legislative Positions Statement
end
SUBJECT
end
Approve NTMWD's Legislative Positions Statement for policy issues in the 89th Texas Legislature.
end
PURPOSE
The Legislative Positions Statement gives staff and legislative consultants direction on certain issues anticipated in the upcoming Texas Legislative Session. The Texas Legislature moves very quickly, and consultation with the full Board in a timely manner is not always possible. Unanticipated issues not contained in the position statement document will still be brought to the Board for direction as needed.
RECOMMENDATION
The Executive Director and NTMWD staff recommend the Board of Directors approve the Legislative Positions Statement.
This item was discussed at the October 23, 2024, Legislative Committee meeting and was considered and approved by the Legislative Committee on December 4, 2024.

BACKGROUND
• This Legislative Positions Statement details certain policy areas and positions that NTMWD is particularly interested or concerned about and provides direction and guidance for staff and consultants during the busy Texas legislative session.
• As the 89th Texas Legislature begins in January 2025, staff recommends updates to the Legislative Positions Statement commensurate with new and ongoing legislative issues.
• The document is intended to provide guidance for staff and consultants but does not preclude further engagement by the Board on legislative issues as the session progresses.
• The Executive Director and staff will continue to update the Legislative Committee, Executive Committee and the full Board as necessary as the various legislative sessions progress.
